DENVER - Jan. 30, 2024 - PRLog -- RemainReal Fine Art, a beloved Denver art gallery, is thrilled to be featuring Mark Risius in its upcoming showcase. Debuting his first solo exhibition in the Denver Arts District, Risius would describe himself as a "transformative" artist who enjoys the process of destruction and reconstruction.

Reflecting on his earlier works, Risius describes the meticulous process of painting leafless trees against dark sunset skies, a technique that—while visually appealing—left him uninspired. This led to a shift toward his current focus: blending colors to create expansive skyscapes.

Risius starts his process by blending color onto a large piece of canvas, often using colors that reflect nature, like blues, greens, and browns. He then destroys the canvas by cutting it into thin strips, which he categorizes by color. Next, he weaves each piece together onto a handcrafted board to create something completely new.

One of the distinguishing features of Risius's art is the conveyed sense of movement, achieved through the spacing of strips in his woven acrylic pieces. This dynamic quality creates an immersive experience, drawing viewers into a captivating visual journey.

When asked about color selection, Risius revealed an instinctual approach, choosing colors that feel right together rather than relying on cerebral decision-making. Nature, especially the vibrant hues of sunsets and Colorado skies, plays a significant role in influencing his choices. The artistic process involves experimentation to discover which colors resonate and harmonize.

With a desire to evoke a sense of possibility, Risius hopes his woven acrylic works prompt individuals to be thoroughly engaged in the moment, sparking thoughts that transcend the ordinary. As he continues to redefine artistic boundaries, his creations stand as a testament to the limitless possibilities within the realm of contemporary art.

His solo exhibition will run from February 2nd until the 25th. RemainReal will also be hosting an artist's reception on the 9th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Alongside Risius's exhibition, RemainReal Fine Art will be showcasing its supporting artist's exhibition entitled "Woven Identities" in the classroom gallery. This exhibition will include work from Jenn Mers, Cheryl Soltis, Anne Fitzgerald, Amanda Clapham, Tom Van Der Sloot, Hector Sector, Mieke Lippstreu, Nicholas Teeter, and Olivia McCann.
