About Dr. Nicholas Andronesco
Dr. Andronesco was born and raised in Romania during the Cold War period. Growing up, he was taught by his parents to be a fighter for justice and that it was his mission to reclaim his rights as a person. This lesson has stayed with him throughout his life.
"The universal human rights are not received for free, you have to conquer them," Dr. Andronesco says.
As a young boy, Dr. Andronesco had a passion for airplanes and dreamed of building them. Later, he would shift his aspirations to becoming a film director in hopes he could help support his family. He was determined to pursue his filmmaking ambitions and was thrilled when he met the president of the University of Arts in Bucharest, which he considers a great moment in his life. It was when Dr. Andronesco took math as a requirement to graduate from college that he discovered his love of physics.
Though Dr. Andronesco still desired to study cinematography to become a film director, the competition to enter that course of study was very rigorous. Since his family was poor and could not cover the costs of making a film to submit to the school, he was unable to enroll. It was during a conversation with his mother that he was advised to consider a career in cybernetics and economics due to his love of math and physics.
Dr. Andronesco's Creative Endeavor: "Resurrection from Hell"
Dr. Andronesco's career change set him on a path to great success in the fields of physics and academia, but he has continued to nurture his artistic endeavors. Among his creative achievements was a nomination for the Nobel Prize in literature for the acclaimed book, "Resurrection from Hell," which he co-wrote and translated. He has also published five books of poetry and directed a self-titled movie about his life.
Filmmaking continues to be Dr. Andronesco's great love and ambition and he hopes to bring "Resurrection from Hell" to a worldwide audience. The story has been compared to "Romeo and Juliet" and takes place in the years between the Russian invasion of Moldova in 1940 and the death of Stalin in 1953 when the prisoners in Russian concentration camps were released. In these camps, prisoners from all over Europe were held during and after World War II.
"The main story is related to the love between the main characters Michael Elm, a Romanian teacher, and Maria Freelander, his former student," Dr. Andronesco explains.
The acclaimed book has been translated into more than 10 languages and Dr. Andronesco aspires to expand its reach to the entire globe. Dr. Andronesco hopes that the film industry will take note of the power of the love story set against a tragic backdrop and its cinematic imagery and produce the film.
"Let's make this story a wonderful movie," Dr. Andronesco says.
