New Jersey and New York residents felt the earth move Friday morning as a small earthquake was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake measured at least 4.7 magnitude, according to USGS. The measurement may change as the earthquake is investigated.
"A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York," Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement. "My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day."

Several people on social media commented that they felt the earth shake in Manhattan and surrounding areas.
The Fire Department of New York said there were no initial reports of damage.
