The National School Chaplain Association has expanded its chaplain services for public schools, providing moral and spiritual support for students in need.

The National School Chaplain Association’s (NSCA) expanded services include counseling and consultations for students experiencing anxiety or depression following a disaster or a traumatic event. The chaplains can particularly work with students attending schools where a shooting took place, helping them overcome fear and anxiety.
Since the horrific Columbine High School shooting in 1999, mass shootings at schools in the United States have risen at a terrible rate. Politicians, officials, and educators have struggled to identify solutions for this overwhelming problem.
While many have focused on increased security or active shooter training, the NSCA has approached the issue from a different angle: fulfilling the spiritual needs of the students — a concept unique to a post-enlightenment society where materialism is the dominant view.
The NSCA offers chaplains that are well-equipped to listen, counsel, and comfort students struggling with the challenges of adolescence. In the United States, traditional school curriculum focuses on the mainstays of western education, but the NSCA provides a spiritual service missing within this syllabus.
As part of this approach, NSCA chaplains emphasize the value of relationships to combat the significant challenges of depression and loneliness. As part of their counseling, they emphasize conversation and relationships as the cornerstones of contentment.
NSCA chaplains also serve as a resource for school staff, advising the principal and school members on spiritual nourishment for their school. Furthermore, chaplains organize and coordinate Christian clubs and events for the students.
