Sea Moss Guide: Details and Health Benefits

Sea moss is a multi-vitamin gel or capsule that helps boost your immune system and energy to get you through a regular day.

Knowing what sea moss is, how it helps boost your immune system and energy, and how you consume it can allow you to decide if it is an ideal supplement for you.

Since consuming sea moss can potentially help improve your immune system, taking medical tests for life insurance policies can be less stressful. With a stronger immune system, you are less likely to contract illnesses that disqualify you for life insurance.

At the very least, the health benefits associated with consuming sea moss can help your body fight off the illnesses that you already have or have recently contracted.

What is sea moss and where does it come from?

Sea moss is a kind of red algae that is thought to improve your health and skin. In its natural form, it is also known as Irish sea moss. Although there is not any research to back up the benefits, researchers do agree that it has some distinct advantages.

Sea moss has recently become a trendy superfood as celebrities like Kim Kardashian share how they consume it regularly, but it has been used for centuries before it became a popular fad.

Sea moss, which is native to the Atlantic coasts of North America and Europe, has been used for medical and culinary purposes since the mid-1800s. For generations, it has been used as folk medicine and food in Scotland, Jamaica, and Ireland. Various cultures use it to help enhance the immune system and fight colds.

This substance is a type of algae that grows within the rocky areas of the British Isles' Atlantic coast as well as in Europe and other parts of North America.

Why is sea moss considered healthy?

People who do not have a strong belief in folk medicine or other natural remedies may align the speculation of the potential health benefits of sea moss with other various wives’ tales

However, sea moss is high in vital minerals and nutrients such as:

  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Iodine
  • Fiber
  • Calcium
  • Vitamins B12 & B2
  • Vitamin C
  • Zinc

Aside from having various essential nutrients and minerals, sea moss also has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Healthy Skin and Hair

Sea moss, which is high in sulfur, is an excellent complement to most skincare regimens. It can remove unwanted microorganisms that cause acne when used topically as a gel mask. Applying the gel mask also moisturizes the face.

Furthermore, sea moss includes collagen, which may keep the skin in good condition, and it can even be an excellent hair conditioner.

Improved Digestion and Gut Health

Sea moss acts like a prebiotic in your stomach, allowing healthy bacteria to flourish. People also eat sea moss because it is high in fiber.

Similar to why people eat and grow strawberries and other fruits high in fiber, sea moss improves colon and intestinal wellbeing. It does this while eliminating dangerous bacteria. Sea moss can also aid in weight loss and improve one’s metabolism. This can impact your BMI, which can impact life insurance.

Enhanced Immune System

This supplement contains a lot of amino acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, which help your body to fight off common viruses and infections. Those who are fighting the common cold or flu may benefit from consuming sea moss.

Improved Energy Levels and Mood

If you’ve a job that requires more focus and energy like carpenters, anglers, engineers, doctors.. Etc,  then you probably need to include Sea Moss in your daily routine. Magnesium and potassium are two vitamins and minerals found in sea moss that have been shown to improve mood. Many people overlook their emotional wellness but emotional wellness is just as critical as physical health.

Sea moss is also high in vitamin B2, specifically, riboflavin, which aids in the breakdown of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It also contains vitamin B9, which is essential for the formation of red blood cells, and iron.

People who follow a plant-based diet or who rarely eat meat and other sources of protein can benefit from adding sea moss into their diet.

How to Consume Sea Moss

Sea moss is available in a variety of ways, including dried, ground, pills, and droppers. The most common ways that people eat sea moss is in two main varieties: gel and powder or capsule.

Consuming Sea Moss as a Capsule

When purchasing sea moss in a ready-to-eat package from a store, you will get it either in a capsule so you can take it as a pill or in the form of powder.

You can eat sea moss regularly like any supplemental pill, or you can apply the flavorless sea moss powder to your meals.

Using Sea Moss as a Gel

There are a good number of people who purchase sea moss raw and cook it into a gel on their stovetop. The gel can be applied topically or be eaten.

As mentioned briefly earlier, sea moss gel may be eaten or used as a facial mask, lotion, and other related skincare regimens. To make a gel from raw sea moss, soak it in water, boil it, and then mix it until it reaches the desired consistency.

Here are detailed instructions on making sea moss gel:

  1. Rinse the sea moss well after removing it from the packaging and then place it in a large bowl.
  2. Soak the sea moss in the large bowl with lots of pure filtered water, cover, and leave it overnight.
  3. Drain the water after soaking and rinse it again.
  4. Boil the sea moss in a saucepan with a little bit of purified water, add any supplements (honey, lime, herbs, etc.) you want into the saucepan, and then cook on low heat for around 20 minutes.
  5. Once the mixture starts to soften and thicken, turn the heat off, let it cool, and blend it until it forms a thick homogeneous liquid.
  6. Pour the mixture into a sealable container and store it in the refrigerator or freezer.

Since sea moss gel is essentially flavorless, it can be consumed as is or within smoothies, soups, stews, drinks, and any other foods.

Health and Safety Precautions of Sea Moss

Consuming an enormous amount of sea moss can result in an abundance of iodine in your system. Having too much iodine in your system will result in a swollen thyroid, which can lead to more serious health issues in the future. High risk hobbies and health choices can negatively impact your chances to qualify for life insurance policies as well as reduce your overall health.

To avoid eating too much, you should consume no more than two tablespoons of sea moss each day. Though some researchers may vouch for the benefits of sea moss, there is little research with it being in its early stages.

As a way to avoid any potential health risks, you should consume sea moss in moderation.
