Lights out: Thousands awaken in darkness as PG&E blackout hits South Bay, Santa Cruz

The utility turned off power to parts San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties late Wednesday, following an earlier blackout phase that took effect early Wednesday morning in parts of the North Bay and East Bay.
