Event is the Largest Free-Admission 4-H Fair on the East Coast

BRIDGEWATER, NJ, July 28, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A Somerset County tradition since 1948, the 4-H Fair will be held in North Branch Park, 355 Milltown Road in Bridgewater, N.J. from Wednesday, August 7 through Friday, August 9, 2019. The event, which is free to attend, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., rain or shine. There will be free shuttle buses between Raritan Valley Community College and North Branch Park from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. each day.

The Somerset County 4-H Fair—the largest event in Somerset County and the largest free-admission 4-H event on the East Coast—recognizes the accomplishments of 700 Somerset County 4-H members. Visitors will see a wide variety of 4-H projects in action with exhibits, demonstrations, performances and activities. These include:

• Arts & Science Tent
• Livestock animals such as dairy cows and beef cows, alpacas, horses, sheep, goats, poultry
• Small animals such as snakes, rabbits and dogs
• Live entertainment
• Dog, horse and livestock shows
• Performances and competitions among 4-H clubs and Somerset County members – twirling, go karts, radio- controlled cars, rockets and model airplanes, model trains, magic
• Meals and snacks in the food tent, run by community non-profit organizations
• Displays, information, contests and free gifts from non-profits and area businesses
• Petting areas and information about how to join 4-H at many animal tents

"The 4-H Fair is one of the most highly anticipated events in Somerset County, with a long history and tradition of bringing together residents, area businesses and non-profits for three days of fun," said Jackie Morales, Somerset County Tourism director. "The attendance numbers speak volumes about the positive experiences of 4-H members who are sharing their projects, skills and interests, and also of the attendees who come to support such a worthwhile program."

The 4-H Youth Development Program is a division of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension; the fair is sponsored by the Somerset County 4-H Association and the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Members and club leaders, volunteer fair managers and parents work together to make the fair the largest event in Somerset County. Representatives from Somerset County government, Raritan Valley Community College, Somerset County Veterans Services, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Somerset County Park Commission and Somerset County Library will also be exhibiting.

Information about the event is on Facebook, the organization's website, http://www.somersetcounty4h.org/ and on the Somerset County Tourism website, https://visitsomersetnj.org/event/somerset-county-4-h-fair/.
