Parent Coaching Institute Featured in The New York Times

The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) proudly announces that Gloria DeGaetano, Founder and Director was interviewed in a recent New York Times article about parent coaches assisting parents with screen-time related challenges.

BELLINGHAM, WA, July 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gloria DeGaetano, Founder and CEO of the Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) was quoted in the July 6, 2019 New York Times article describing how parent coaches help parents with screen-related issues. Two graduates of the Parent Coaching Institute who are practicing PCI Certified Parent Coaches® also described their work with parents.

When asked how she felt being included in this article Gloria DeGaetano responded, "I am very grateful to be a part of a movement to help parents with the most difficult job in today's society—managing screen time. The main reason I started the Parent Coaching Institute was that I recognized the effectiveness of a coaching model to pro-actively address the individual needs of parents and personalize solutions for the unique factors impacting their families."

Using evidence-based strategies and a well-researched framework for communication and analysis, PCI Certified Parent Coaches® work with moms and dads to help them create awareness of new possibilities. In addition to working with parents directly, PCI Certified Parent Coaches® offer their services to agencies, schools and businesses.

The Parent Coaching Institute has received media coverage in the past from other newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, as well as radio and television, including DeGaetano's interviews on The Today Show and NPR's The Tavis Smiley Show.

About this recent interview DeGaetano adds, "Because it was a short article I wrote two blog posts to include more details. In one blog post I explain that PCI does not employ parent coaches. Rather we train professionals to become parent coaches and then they set up their own businesses separate from PCI. In the other, I discuss what PCI parent coaches actually, do—we do not give advice, but offer suggestions within the parent's situation. There are no simplistic answers to how to get your child who is obsessed with a screen off the screen once habituated. It is a complex process and takes time, determination, and a can-do attitude on the parent's part. Usually after 10-12 coaching sessions, parents see significant positive changes. Many say, 'My child has returned to us.' And, you can imagine, they are very grateful."

The PCI's acclaimed distance-learning, graduate-level Parent Coach Certification® training program, offered in affiliation with Southern New Hampshire University, enrolls students twice a year. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2019 Fall Term, with application deadline August 9. For more information or to download an application, visit www.ThePCI.org.
