Northern Trust announced today that Erica Lord, Assistant General Counsel, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC).

ACTEC is a professional society of peer-elected trust and estate lawyers who have demonstrated the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience. Fellows are selected on the basis of experience, professional reputation and ability in the fields of trusts and estates, and on the basis of having made substantial contributions to these fields through lecturing, writing, teaching, and bar activities. Lord shares the honor of an ACTEC Fellowship with 13 other Northern Trust employees.

In her current role, Lord advises Northern Trust Wealth Management clients on the administration of wills and trusts, including matters relating to estate settlement, fiduciary investing, trustee discretion, and agency law. She collaborates with attorneys across the United States to develop estate planning documents, and resolve trust and estate conflicts.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, Lord practiced privately with the law firms of Reed Smith LLP and Lord, Bissell & Brook LLP. She earned her law degree with honors from The George Washington University Law School and her bachelor’s degree with high honors from Michigan State University.

Lord is a regular speaker and contributor to publications on topics regarding fiduciary duties and trust and estate administration. She is a member of the bar of the State of Illinois, the United States Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the American Bar Association and the Chicago Estate Planning Council.
