Alfa Chemistry Launched A New Subsite for the Promotion of Catalysts

As a global Contract Research Organization (CRO), Alfa Chemistry has served the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries for over eight years, and they offer an extensive catalog of catalysts for a wide range of applications. On March 20, 2019, Alfa Chemistry announced that their catalyst subsite has been officially launched.

Catalysis refers to a process of increasing the rate of chemical reaction by adding a catalyst which is not consumed in the catalytic reaction and can be repeatedly used. Alfa Chemistry offers a wide range of catalysts including chiral catalysts, organic catalysts, phase transfer catalysts, photocatalysts, metal catalysts and non-metal catalysts.

Chiral catalysts

Chiral catalysts include chiral ligands and central metal atoms. Some reactions require only chiral ligands for catalysis without the need for metal atoms. In addition to the use of natural products, chiral catalysts are mainly derived from artificial synthesis. A highly efficient chiral catalyst molecule can induce the formation of molecules of tens of thousands or even millions of chiral products, reaching or exceeding the level of enzyme catalysis.

Organic catalysts

Organocatalysts are catalysts containing only carbon, hydrogen, sulfur, and other non-metallic elements. Organocatalysts can catalyze various reactions including activation reactions (enamine activation, SOMO activation, hydrogen bond activation, chiral phase-transfer activation and nitrogen heterocyclic carbene activation), oxidation reactions, condensation reactions, carbonyl reduction reactions and oxo-synthesis reactions.

Phase transfer catalysts

Heterogeneous organic reactions in organic synthesis generally have a slow reaction rate, low yield, and incomplete reactivity. However, if a water-soluble inorganic salt is added when the organic substance is dissolved in an organic solvent having a small polarity, the reaction becomes easy to proceed. This substance which promotes the reaction rate and transfers negative ions between the two phases is called a phase transfer catalyst. In other words, phase transfer catalysts (PTCs) are a class of catalysts that can assist in the transfer of reactants from one phase to another.

Photocatalysts

A photocatalyst is a chemical substance that catalyzes a reaction under the excitation of photons. It is a green catalyst. Most of the photocatalysts are n-type semiconductor materials, which all have a special electronic band structure that is different from metal or insulating materials, that is, they have forbidden band between the valence band and the conduction band. Currently, TiO2 is the most widely used photocatalyst. Photocatalysts can be used in many fields such as organic synthesis, catalytic chemistry, environmental management, electrochemistry and biomedicine.

Metal catalysts

Metal catalysts are an important class of industrial catalysts, mainly including certain transition metals such as iron, gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, etc. Metal catalysts are mainly used for dehydrogenation and hydrogenation reactions, and some metals also have catalytic activity for oxidation and reforming. The metal catalysis is mainly determined by the electronic structure of the metal atom, especially the ability of the d orbital electrons and the d-space orbits that do not participate in the metal bond to form an adsorption bond with the adsorbed molecule.

Non-metal catalysts

In addition to metal catalysts, Alfa Chemistry also offers a variety of non-metal catalysts including arsenic catalysts, boron catalysts, nitrogen-containing catalysts, phosphorus catalysts, selenium catalysts, and silicon catalysts.

“Considering the growing demand for catalysts from our customers, we have decided to launch a sub-site to provide our customers with more detailed information on catalyst products,” said Brenda Randy, marketing manager at Alfa Chemistry. “On our catalyst subsite, customers can find a variety of catalysts to meet their specific needs.”
