Rounds Bakery Challenges Community to Give Back This Season

Restaurant promises to match donations collected for The Eddy House

RENO, Nev. - December 13, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Rounds Bakery is hosting a giving tree to benefit impoverished young adults through community donations for The Eddy House now through January 1, 2019. Co-owners Sean Cary and Anton Novak pledged to match donations up to $1000, and Rounds employees have also generously agreed to contribute their tips on select days.

Money raised will go toward providing living essentials to teens aging out of the foster system. Through various programs and services, The Eddy House works with homeless and at-risk youth to develop life and job skills necessary for sustainable independence.

“Once they reach a certain age, these kids literally have no family and no one to turn to. They suffer and, by no fault of their own, they are left abandoned,” said Novak. “It’s incredibly difficult for them to get a job because they have nothing to get started — no transportation, no new shirt for interviews, not even non-skid shoes required in the restaurant business.

“These kids are desperately lacking the support they need to succeed. The homeless youth rate in our community has almost doubled, and we need to step up. It’s imperative that these youth know their community supports them,” said Meredith Tanzer with the Eddy House.

Through the giving tree, Rounds will offer the following donation options:

$20 Donation: 7-day bus pass; 24 pairs of hand warmers; 5 pack of boxer briefs or underwear; Nevada ID Card

$10 Donation: Groceries; 2 undershirts; earbuds; flashlight; sports bra or boxer briefs

$5 Donation: Groceries; 1 pair of socks or underwear; over-the-counter cough drops

“Even one dollar provides the opportunity for everyone to be part of the solution,” Novak added. “Not solving this problem is not an option. We need to fix this now or pay for it later.”
