KB Home built its first ENERGY STAR new home in 2000. The 115,000+ ENERGY STAR homes KB Home has built since that time have collectively saved its homeowners an estimated $658 million in utility bills and reduced CO2 emissions by an estimated 4 billion pounds, which is equivalent to removing 382,000 cars from the road.

“ENERGY STAR is the foundation on which we have built our industry-leading sustainability program over nearly two decades,” said Jeffrey Mezger, chairman, president and chief executive officer of KB Home. “We are honored to be recognized once again by EPA for our commitment to delivering this superior level of energy performance to our homeowners across the country, which helps them to both save money on utility bills and protect important natural resources.”

While consumers may assume that energy efficiency is a given when buying a new home, EPA estimates that only 10% of new homes in the U.S. in 2016 and 2017 met ENERGY STAR certification standards. To earn the ENERGY STAR label, a home must meet rigorous requirements for energy efficiency set by EPA and undergo third-party testing and verification. The KB homes built to ENERGY STAR standards are, on average, up to 73% more efficient than typical existing homes today, offering significant potential utility savings to KB homeowners.

In recognition of its longstanding partnership with ENERGY STAR and sustainability leadership in the homebuilding industry, KB Home has also been recognized by EPA with its highest major national awards, including the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award in 2018, for the seventh year in a row.
