By: PRLog
The summer's most competitive basketball tournament draws All-Star celebrities, basketball legends, collegiate players, families and children to a weekend of basketball, along with 'A Day of Giving'
ATLANTA - May 21, 2018 - PRLog -- The Fifth AnnualThe Basketball Tournament (TBT) – the $2 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event broadcast live on ESPN – will host its Super 16 round in Atlanta July 26 – 29, 2018 at Georgia State University Sports Arena. The national tournament features a 72-team bracket of top-notch professional basketball, featuring college alumni teams, international basketball stars, ex-NBA players, future NBA players and more competing in a single-elimination 5-on-5 tournament. All games in Atlanta will air live on ESPN networks.

"TBT has grown from a great idea into a world-class event in an incredibly short amount of time," says Jon Mugar, TBT Founder and CEO. "This year we faced a difficult decision, as we received interest from so many cities that wanted to bring TBT to their communities. We're thrilled to bring the excitement of TBT to Atlanta and and its thousands of basketball fans."

NBA veteran Kent Bazemore will serve as the honorary host for the Super 16 round in Atlanta. As part of the event, TBT will also host 'A Day Of Giving' on July 25, where residents will have the opportunity to serve their communities alongside Bazemore and former NBA stars at several locations throughout the city.

"Giving back to the Atlanta area is extremely important to me," says Bazemore. "What better way to enjoy a favorite pastime while investing in young people to reach their full potential."

Bazemore also serves as founder and president of the ARMS Foundation which provides disadvantaged youth a path to a quality education, athletic achievement and a healthy lifestyle.

Several teams with ties to Atlanta are vying to compete in this year's tournament, including 'ATL All-Stars' who are playing to benefit disadvantaged youth. That team includes former NBA players P.J. Hairston (Charlotte Hornets 2014 first round pick), Shannon Brown and Josh Powell (NBA champions with the Los Angeles Lakers). Also looking to compete is Angel's Atlanta, a team named after and supported by WNBA superstar Angel McCoughtry. Former first-round pick and longtime Atlanta Hawk Josh Smith and former Memphis standout Wesley Witherspoon, both Georgia natives, will also be competing.

The teams competing in the Super 16 will be determined following regional play earlier in the month. The regional schedule includes:
  • South – Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Richmond, Va. from July 13-15
  • West – California State University Los Angeles from July 13-15
  • Northeast – Long Island University of Brooklyn, N.Y. from July 20-22
  • Midwest – Capital University of Columbus, Ohio from July 20-22
The games in Atlanta will determine the four teams moving on to the $2 million Championship round in Baltimore, MD from August 2-3.
