As the final day for Texans to sign up for “Obamacare” approached, some Frisco health insurance applicants had experienced online glitches.
After completing the online application utilizing HealthCare.gov, there had been reports of consumers receiving a response regarding “probable” eligibility but also stating “none are available to you in your area.”
Health insurance experts in Frisco have stated this information is incorrect as the entire United States must have at least one health insurer offering plans by law through the Affordable Care Act.
Friday, 12/15/17 was the final day to enroll for subsidized private coverage. Although the sign-up window through the federal HealthCare.gov website had been cut in half, Texans showed a strong desire to obtain quality health insurance.
Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have even lent their support in encouraging Americans in need of health insurance to sign up while participating on a conference call with enrollment counselors.
Many enrollment counselors across Texas reported that because of the glitches in the system, some consumers may have simply walked away from obtaining health insurance altogether.
Trump administration officials communicated that the issues have been fixed and had worked with consumers who could not complete the application. However, advocates did report continued problems.
Fortunately, many of the problems were ironed out with the HealthCare.gov website and ancillary sites remained steady. At the same time, health insurance agents in Frisco acted as an alternative to a live operator at Healthcare.gov as their final option to obtain coverage or change plans.
“I’ve seen tremendous demand for health insurance and I’ve been advising my clients to make sure you complete the process in order to be eligible. The kinks had been worked out.” says Rick Thornton, a Frisco health insurance agent.
An important note for Texans to know is they may be eligible for a sign-up extension by December 31, 2017 due to living in hurricane-affected states that also include Florida and Georgia. The normal extension deadline will be 12/15 at 12am Pacific standard time.
It is still unclear whether or not the Trump Administration will allow a grace period for those who started an application but were not able to complete it. Previous extension periods during the Obama presidency resulted in hundreds of thousands of additional enrollees.
Between 9 million to 10 million people currently have coverage through the ACA’s marketplaces. These markets typically serve individuals who do not have access to health insurance through their job.
Interestingly enough, consumers have seen lower premium payments in 2018. While list price premiums for the more popular plans increased, so did the subsidies provided by taxpayers which determine how much individuals end up paying out-of-pocket.
