Amazon introduces Amazon Key

The markets extended its losses during the midday with the Dow plummeting 105 points to 23,335. Nasdaq fell 38 points to 6,560.


Amazon introduced its new Amazon Key service that will allow couriers to unlock a customer's front door and leave packages inside the customer's home. The delivery person scans the package barcode which sends a message to unlock the smart lock for a five minute window. The service uses Amazon's Cloud Cam to livestream the entire delivery.


Deutsche Bank will settle charges that it defrauded the U.S. government by paying a total of $220 million to 44 states and Washington, D.C. The German bank has admitted to manipulating interest rates between 2005 to 2009 that inflated the cost of borrowing. Deutsche Bank has also been accused to engaging in efforts to influence the Libor submissions of rival banks in order to benefit their own trading positions.


As part of its acquisition of Rite Aid, Walgreens Boots Alliance will close approximately 600 stores beginning next spring. Most of the locations to be shuttered are Rite Aid stores that are within a mile of another store. Walgreens will spend nearly $450 million on the closures but will realize approximately $300 million in annual savings by the end of fiscal 2020.


In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 7 to 2 on the NYSE and by nearly 7 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 dropped 12 points to 2,556. Bitcoin soared $76 to $5,552.
