Another consideration is location, a consultant based in a city will charge more than one in a more rural location. Why? Because the cost of managing the business is more. If there overhead is less this means that they are likely to charge less for their services. Location will also be a factor in terms of proximity to your business. If there are a lot of travelling costs this will also be factored into the cost. That being said these days, with such great communications tools available to us, a lot of work can be done remotely, you’ll just need to consider whether or not you need the consultant to be in your direct location and whether they’ll need to travel to you regularly. Experience is the key determining factor when it comes to a hiring a consultant. You will be able to hire a marketing consultant for less if they have less practicable experience in the field. An individual with 4- 5 years’ experience in marketing will cost far less than a freelancer with 25 plus years’ experience consulting in marketing on both client and agency side.
