In a recent letter from Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr. to AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) President Michael Weinstein, PAHO praised AHF for reaching the milestone of 2 million lives in care and highlighted its extensive humanitarian and public health work in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
The congratulatory letter from PAHO, the United Nations health agency for the Americas, stated, “This achievement [2 million lives in care] reflects the extensive reach and impact of your services, providing treatment and support to those affected by HIV/AIDS and STIs.” PAHO also recognized AHF for supporting Venezuelan migrants and pledging $10 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.
“We thank Dr. Barbosa and PAHO for their recognition and support over recent years. The successful outcomes in the region would not be possible without our partnership with PAHO, which is why our Memorandum of Understanding with them is so vital to our work in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Weinstein. “Given that the region faces many public health challenges post-COVID, we look forward to working closely with PAHO in the future.”
In addition to PAHO, AHF is grateful to have received congratulatory messages from more than 100 key partners, including the Brazilian government, the Mexico City government, partners in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ghana, Kenya, and Montenegro, the University of Miami, and the Parliamentarians Network for Global Health – UNITE.
