Recipients include four nonprofit organizations across Missouri
The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., recently announced four organizations were awarded a Workforce Readiness/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) grant, supporting communities served by Missouri American Water.
“Focusing on education of the future members of our workforce is one of the ways we support the communities we serve," said Rich Svindland, president of Missouri American Water. "Investing in our youth is critical to sustain the success of communities in the future.”
These grants are part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. The Workforce Readiness grant focuses on general career readiness, financial and business literacy, positive youth development and life skills training.
The STEM education grant provides STEM-focused curricular and extracurricular programs for underserved students. Below is a list of grantees throughout Missouri.
- Gateway Music Outreach in Florissant - $25,000 for expansion of the adopt a musician and community-based programs.
- Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis - $25,000 in support of the JA trades program offering hands-on experience and highlighting the importance of STEM skills in various trades
- Creative Learning Alliance in Joplin - $25,000 to purchase the Bubble Monster Exhibit, a hands-on creative experience applying both water and the principles of physics.
- Missouri Gateway Council in St. Louis - $25,000 for the Missouri Green Schools Program recognizing schools participating in a systems-based approach to long-term sustainability
"Gateway Music Outreach is deeply grateful for the American Water Charitable Foundation's Workforce Readiness/STEM grant,” said Angel McKay, executive director. "This funding will expand our Adopt-A-Musician Program and Community Music Outreach Projects, providing intensive music education to more underserved students and families. By integrating music with STEM, we will provide a holistic experience preparing students for success.”
