African respondents believe China-Africa cooperation sets a model for international cooperation

During the 2024 summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China Media Group CGTN and Renmin University of China jointly conducted a survey for African respondents through the New Era International Communication Research Institute, showing that African respondents believe that China-Africa cooperation have set a good example for developing countries to cooperate in international affairs.

African respondents highly appreciate the principles of China-Africa cooperation based on sincerity, real results, amity and good faith. In the survey, 81.7 percent of the respondents praise that China has always offered respect, appreciation, and support for Africa. 88.9 percent of the respondents say that China-Africa cooperation has improved the overall economic and social development conditions in Africa. 89.6 percent people say that China-Africa cooperation has enhanced the friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of both regions. 89.7 percent of respondents support China to continue to reinforce mutual support with African countries on issues involving core interests and major concerns of either or both, and continue its firm support for Africa’s position on international and regional affairs, upholding the common interests of developing countries.

The survey found that the young African respondents aged from 18 to 24 fully affirm the concept and achievements of Chinese modernization and development. 98.7 percent of the youth view China as a successful country. 97.1 percent of respondents believe that China has a strong economic strength. 98.2 percent praise China for maintaining rapid economic growth, and as many as 99 percent of the respondents are impressed by China’s technological strength.

African respondents are full of confidence and anticipation for the future of China-Africa relations. 88.2 percent of the respondents expect China and Africa to jointly safeguard the development interests of countries in the “Global South”. 89.8 percent of the young people surveyed believe that China-Africa cooperation has injected strong impetus into world peace and development and is of great significance to promoting the building of a more equitable and reasonable international order.

The survey was conducted with 10,125 respondents from 10 African countries, including Cameroon, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania. Among them, 3,710 respondents (36.6%) are young people aged 18 to 24.
