Item 8.01. Other Events.

On April 20, 2009, Pharmasset, Inc. (the “Company”) issued a press release announcing it had voluntarily terminated its Phase III QUASH studies of clevudine for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection after becoming aware of a number of spontaneous Serious Adverse Event reports and Events of Special Interest in patients receiving clevudine as prescribed therapy for hepatitis B in South Korea. The full text of the press release issued in connection with the announcement is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated by reference into this Current Report on Form 8-K. The press release shall be deemed filed with, and not furnished to, the Securities and Exchange Commission.
